How to download software from a CD to a laptop that doesn't have a CD Rom?

I want to download Microsoft Word from a CD to a laptop that has no CD Rom. I have a desktop with a CD Rom that also has the same software. Could I somehow download the software to my desktop and then to a thumb drive which I can insert into my laptop and download it that way?
